Websterisms: A Collection of Words and Definitions Set Forth by the Founding Father of American English ReviewThe book is witty, entertaining and scholarly at the same time. The two essays are well written and useful, though perhaps they could have been more detailed. Especially valuable is the long section with selected entries from Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary. There are (at least) two such selections for Johnson's Dictionary of 1755 but there was none for Webster. Some entries have notes cleverly placed in the margins and printed in red ink, providing useful additional information.
