The New Unger's Bible Dictionary ReviewThis is one of several available Bible dictionaries. I prefer it because it is up to date, comprehensive for a one-volume reference, and has some fine color and bw illustrations. Fifteen color Bible maps with indexes are included as an appendix. It does not champion any particular school of Bible interpretation, although it is obvious that the editors hold to the fundamentals of the Christian faith and the inerrancy of the Scriptures.The New Unger's Bible Dictionary Overview

Merriam-Webster's Dictionary and Thesaurus (Dictionary/Thesaurus) ReviewThe other reviewers appear to address the printed version rather than the Kindle-specific version. I am focusing on the Kindle Application.
Strengths -- easily used under Kindle platform, terse, usually is clear in distinguishing parts of speech, and it can be used as the default dictionary.
Weaknesses
1. Definitions are not necessarily any more complete than those from the New Oxford American Dictionary(already built-in on Kindle). Several that I used tonight were less so.
2. Definitions for one part of speech are often dependent on another definition listed for another part of speech (a weakness of many dictionaries that is annoying for more complex or unfamiliar words)
----Simple example: the word anger is both a noun and a verb, Thus they define the verb form as "to make angry".
3. Thesaurus component is okay and gives additional ideas for the verb "anger". However antonyms are very limited if the purpose is to use this as a writing resource. Very few choices.
----For example: antonyms for anger (verb) were delight, gratify and please. But other common options are missing such as calm, sooth, pacify. One would have to keep browsing and unless you set this as the default, you keep ending up in another dictionary when trying to do that.
4. Word Origins are sometimes given, mostly abbreviated and with less detail than in Kindle's Default Dictionary.
I have not compared word counts. Sheer mass of definitions is a misleading index of quality.Merriam-Webster's Dictionary and Thesaurus (Dictionary/Thesaurus) Overview

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary ReviewBeing a university student, a dictionary that is compact enough to fit in a backpack amongst many textbooks is a must. This, the latest edition of the M-W Dictionary, fits that requirement. The text is easy to read and there is even a nifty reference section at the back containing "foreign words & phrases, biographical names, and geographical names".
I rate it at 3 stars because although the cover boasts "Over 75,000 definitions", words such as ontological and multivalent are not included.
I highly recommend this dictionary for students at the high school level, but university students should keep searching.The Merriam-Webster Dictionary Overview

The Makeup Artist Handbook: Techniques for Film, Television, Photography, and Theatre ReviewAs a professional makeup artist working in film and theater for the last 20 years, I am always looking for good makeup books that teach new techniques and working with new products. This is not that book. As the title suggests, this is only a handbook for those who already know how to apply makeup. It touches on many topics, but does not do much teaching at all. It could be used as a reference to remind a makeup artist what steps are involved in an application technique, but there is very little in depth description of how or why to do each step.
While it does talk about HD, airbrush makeup, Tinsley Transfers, and silicone prosthetics, there is very little useful information for anyone who has not already used these products. Much of the information from these chapters can even be found online (in more detail) through a simple web search (including two articles reprinted directly from the free webzine airbrushtalk.com).
As a reference book, this book deserves 3 stars for compiling a lot of useful information into one place.
As an instruction book, I would give this book 0-1 Stars. If you are looking to learn the techniques of the makeup artist, you best choice is still Richard Corson's Stage Makeup (9th Edition)The Makeup Artist Handbook: Techniques for Film, Television, Photography, and Theatre Overview
